Jordan houses a number of desert palaces most of which were built by caliphs of the Umayyad dynasty in the 7th to 8th century that showcase early Islamic art and architectural design. Some of these desert palaces have been reconstructed and utilized by following generations for various purposes including recreation, agriculture, and defense.
