King Abdullah II is the son of the late King Hussein of Jordan. He assumed his constitutional powers as monarch on February 7, 1999.
After ascending the throne Abdullah II first took actions to strengthen the economy of Jordan. Through his deep insight into the problems ailing the Jordanian economy he succeeded to bring remarkable changes in Jordan. He succeeded in increasing investments in the country. As he improved public-private partnerships which increased the strength of both sectors. The king also improved the IT sector in Jordan and was able to set up economic zones that improved al sorts of industries in Jordan.
King Abdullah II is as busy on foreign diplomatic front as he is busy with his domestic policies. He has been a key figure in bringing about Israel-Palestine peace accords. King Abdullah II has also set the declration of recognizing the independence of Palestine.
King Abdullah II was also a strong supporter of the freedom of press and media. He has made several constitutional amendments to allow more freedom to journalists for self-expression.
King Abdullah II has also fortified Jordan’s already strong military with better quality training and weapons. He has increased the number of fighter jets in the Royal Jordanian Air Force as well as high-tech tanks in the cavalry.
