Wasfi Al-Tal was born in 1919 in Kurdistan. His father, Mustafa Al-Tal, was a nationalist Jordanian poet who influenced the anti-colonial movement in Jordan. Like his father, Wasfi Al-Tal infused the spirit of patriotism among his countrymen. He served as a captain in the British Army in World War II and fought with the Arab armies in the 1948 Palestine war. After leaving the army service from the rank of major, he started working in the Jordanian Civil Service. He later served as Jordan’s ambassador to Germany, Iraq, and Iran. He also served as the Prime Minister of Jordan three times during the reign of King Hussein: from 1962 to 1963, from 1965 to 1967, and from 1970 till his assassination in November 1971 during a visit to Cairo to attend an Arab League summit.
